Finally, the FDA, blind for over 10 years to the constantly surmounting evidence that mercury for fillings in your teeth is bad, has now admitted that mercury amalgams are not so good.
It took constant bombardment by doctors, groups and researchers and a lawsuit by Moms Against Mercury et al to do the trick.
Although not perfect by no means, the results will force the FDA to reclassify its amalgam policy by July of 2009. It also obliges them to post a warning on their website: “Dental amalgams contain mercury, which may have neurotoxic effects on the nervous systems of developing children and fetus.”
“Pregnant women and persons who may have a health condition that makes them more sensitive to mercury exposure, including individuals with existing high levels of mercury bioburden, should not avoid seeking dental care, but should discuss options with their health practitioner.”
Kudos to those who worked so diligently for these results!
This is especially important for those most at risk such as pregnant and nursing women, children, fetuses, people with already high levels of mercury bioburden, those who are sensitive to mercury exposure.
Even though this may seem a victory for us, as usual, the American Dental Association stands its ground
If asked whether silver mercury fillings are safe, the American Dental Association (ADA) states on its Web site:
“Yes. Dental amalgam has been used in tooth restorations worldwide for more than 100 years. Studies have failed to find any link between amalgam restorations and any medical disorder. Amalgam continues to be a safe restorative material for dental patients.”
They aren’t ready to admit they’re wrong yet. Their reluctance stems from the fact that they would have so many lawsuits against them, it would devastate the profession.
Did you ever wonder how much mercury these fillings release?
Every time you eat, drink, brush your teeth, grind your teeth, chew gum, anything, mercury vapour gets released. Want to see for yourself, watch this shocking video.
There is all this fuss over eating mercury-contaminated seafood. For the record, eating such seafood will expose you to about 2.3 micrograms of mercury a day but a single dental amalgam filling will release as much as 15 micrograms of mercury per day. Duh!
And to make matters worse the average person has eight amalgam fillings and could absorb up to 120 micrograms of mercury per day. There is something really wrong with this picture.
Are you wondering what you should do if you have mercury fillings?
There’s no doubt that they must come out but how can you have this done safely?
You see, when you have these fillings removed you can be exposed to significant amounts of mercury vapours, if the dentist doesn’t know what he or she is doing.
When I had mine taken out, I visited a homeopathic chiropractor who helped my body release the mercury toxicity. There are some definite things you must look for to make sure the procedure is done safely:
- There has to be an alternative air source (such as a mask over the nose)
- A cold-water spray should be used to minimize mercury vapours
- The rubber dam is a must in your mouth so you don’t swallow or inhale any toxins
- A high-volume evacuator needs to be used near the tooth at all times to evacuate the mercury vapour
- Immediately after the fillings have been removed, wash your mouth out and the dentist should also change gloves
- Due diligence by the dental office should also have them clean all the protective wear equipment after each removal
- One more point to consider, would be to have room air purifiers running
Now if you live in a small community where finding an environmentally safe dentist is not possible, then you must at least ask for some of the above safe use requirements and look at boosting your immune system prior to removal.
We all know that detoxifying the body of poisons is important for good health but it is especially important when you have amalgams removed. Your body will need nutrients to fight back and repair the damaged caused by these poisons. So cleansing before and after is mandatory to your health.
I did it and I have the peace of mind that at least a substance that is deemed to be the most toxic substance on earth is not poisoning me any longer!
