If you’re like me, you don’t like genetically modified foods.

For me, genetically modified foods are a threat to our very subsistence. I am horrified to find out that even our organic crops are being contaminated by this technology.

It is just recently that some health risks are being discovered.

I know that it raises some major red flags in my books.

It seems that GM corn affects the reproductive health in mice. This information was deemed so serious that opponents of GM foods called for an immediate ban.

Human life is at stake here!

65 serious health threats have been identified so far:

  • baby rats died 5x  quicker, had lower weights and were sterile
  • sperm cells of male mice were damaged
  • mice had altered DNA
  • pigs and cow fed GM corn varieties had sterility or fertility problems
  • even buffaloes in India fed GM cottonseed had fertility problems, abortions, premature births, even death
  • also seems GM foods are highly allergenic which is directly related to an increase in food related illnesses between 1994 and 2001
  • more evidence shows GM potatoes causing cancer in rats

This is enough evidence to make me steer clear of GM foods.  But how do we even know which foods can be contaminated?

It seems that nearly all of these next foods are GM and should be avoided:

  • soy
  • corn
  • cottonseed
  • canola

It is also recommended that we limit products made from vegetable oils, maltodexrin and high fructose corn syrup, because corn and soy are used widely in at least 79% of processed supermarket foods.

That’s seven out of every 10 products!

More GM food products are:

  • papayas from Hawaii and some zucchini and crookneck squash
  • RBGH milk
  • rennet used for making cheese
  • Aspartame (NutraSweet)

Unless what you eat is certified organic, then I recommend you stay away from any of the above.

One neat trick is to check the labels of these fruits and vegetables. The little stickers on fruits and vegetables have digits that let you know whether they’re conventionally grown or organic, and if they’re genetically modified (GM).

Here’s what to look for:

  • A four-digit number means the produce is conventionally grown
  • A five-digit number beginning with 9 means it’s organic
  • A five-digit number beginning with 8 means it’s GM

Stay safe and healthy.
