Genetically modified foods have been on our table for years now. And the results are pouring in.

GM food
Cell damage and even death are what authors of a study on the subject say in their research. And they add “undesirable effects which are currently masked or hidden from scientific scrutiny”.
Soybeans , cotton and corn crops are the world’s largest group of GM crops. This became popular in the beginning because it allowed farmers to spray Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide directly onto their fields without harming the crops whereas heirloom seedlings die when sprayed by Roundup, or any other glyphosate-based herbicide.
But it doesn’t stop there, as millions of pounds of Roundup are used on lawns, gardens and farms.
What’s even more alarming is the fact that Roundup use has increased since the introduction of these genetically modified seeds as they need more Roundup sprayed on them than heirloom seeds in order to be able to resist insect infestations.
Where does that leave us?
Here is what Researchers wrote: “This work clearly confirms that the adjuvants in Roundup formulations are not inert. Moreover, the proprietary mixtures available on the market could cause cell damage and even death around residual levels to be expected, especially in food and feed derived from Roundup formulation-treated crops.”
Without doing an essay on the subject, bottom line is GM foods are not safe.
Here are some serious health risks to consider:
- babies of rats fed GM soy had 5 times increase in mortality, lower birth weights and were sterile
- mice had sperm cells damaged
- GM soy fed mice embryo had altered DNA functioning
- even farmers reported sterility or fertility problems among pics and cows
- documentation in India shows fertility problems, abortions, premature births and a lot of serious health problems, even death, among their cattle fed GM cottonseed products.
How can you avoid GM foods?
When shopping, check out the little sticker on the produce and if you see a five-digit number that begins with an 8, take a big pass, as that produce is GM.
That also goes for most processed foods and drinks that also contain genetically modified ingredients, unless they are organic.
If all of these health risks aren’t enough to get you to stop eating food made from GM items, consider this thought: Farmers who buy Monsanto’s Roundup Ready seeds have to promise not to save or sell the seeds and must buy new seeds from Monsanto every year under penalty of prosecution if the terms are violated. Ask Percy Schmeizer all about that.
Buying organic goes without saying as one vital solution to avoiding these health hazards.
