What are vitamins and mineral supplements actually made from?
Nearly all are synthesized by the same huge pharmaceutical/chemical plants that the material for drugs come from, coal tar, petroleum, discarded animal by-products. powdered rocks and shells.
Rarely are they derived from fresh raw vegetables and organic grains, carefully dried and powdered, free from the additions of such fillers as starch, lactose, soy, magnesium sulfate, etc.
Why? Cost!
For example vitamin B-12 comes from one of two sources, ground up cow’s liver and activated sewage sludge fecal matter. Yuk!
These are easy and cheap to obtain and as long as the public doesn’t know and form an emotional aversion to it, it’s business as usual. The rest of the B vitamins are processed from coal tar.
As to mineral supplements, manufacturers take mineral ore and pulverize it into a fine powder. These are known as metallic minerals and 98% of it cannot be assimilated by the digestive system. Only plant derived minerals are nutrients for the body.
We can get our iron from grapes and green leafy vegetables but not from ground up rocks.
Now when you go to your drug store or convenient store, ie: Walmart, and buy supplements that have the store brand, you would do better to donate to your favorite charity. You are not investing in your health.
How can your body absorb synthetic ingredients? It cannot.
Sure the supplements are inexpensive but they are also mostly ineffective.
I’d rather spend a few dollars more and know that what I am buying is organic and plant-derived. Researching the company is always a wise step to ensure quality.
A good rule of thumb is to listen to other people’s testimonials or recommendations. You then are using your money wisely and not just making expensive urine.
