I never thought that my bra could actually be bad for my health!![]()
But it seems that there are several potential problems with bras.
- A tight fitting bra can cut off lymph drainage which can lead to breast cancer because you will be less able to excrete all the toxins you’re exposed to each day. Here’s a good example. We all know that aluminum in antiperspirants is a source of dangerous toxins. Well, if the lymph drainage is impaired, where will it go?
- Bras that are too tight have also been associated with a rise of non cancerous but painful breast cysts and lumps.
What to do?
Wear the proper bra for you. For many women, wearing a bra is just something you do, but a lot of women have no clue as to how to properly fit one to their body type.
However, before I get to that, I want to talk about the underwire bra and how it can be a cancer causing device.
I was totally unaware of this fact until recently.
Nearly all underwire bras contain metal underwires which are coated with plastic.
Beware of the metal!
What happens is this.
Take acupuncture, for example. If you tape a small metal ball over an acupuncture point, you can get longer lasting stimulation for that point. This is known as the Antenna Effect. From that knowledge, was developed the AcuAids, which are small magnetic patches that health professionals use on their clients, to safely stimulate an energy point over a period of time.
So what’s that got to do with the bra?
Below the breasts are 2 important neurolymphatic reflex points. Below the right breast is found the liver and gallbladder energy points and on the left side you will find the stomach point.
These reflexes act as acupuncture points which at first cause an increase in function but later cause sedation of that point and a decrease in function.
Our underwire bra, if kept on for a long time, will mess up these circuits to our liver, gallbladder and stomach.
In other words, you will likely get sick, slowly and quietly.
That’s not all.
The metal wire can also act as an antenna to attract electromagnetic fields (ELF). It is widely accepted now that ELF health risks are real for those living close to overhead electrical lines.
Syndney Singer and Soma Grismaijer, the authors of Dressed to Kill: The Link Between Breast Cancer and Bras, found that women not wearing bras have a much lower risk of getting breast cancer.
Their findings included:
-
24 hour bra wearers had a 3 out of 4 chance of developing breast cancer
-
more than 12 hours per day wearers, but not to bed, had a 1 out of 7 risk
-
less than 12 hours per day wearers had a 1 out of 52 risk
-
rare bra wearers or never wearers had a 1 out of 168 chance of getting breast cancer
So what to do?
-
Look for a bra with no underwire. Sports bras and camisoles with a built in bra can work very well.
-
If underwire is what you need, there are bras made with with a plastic wire or you can even switch out the metal for plastic in your favorite bra. Fabric stores should have these or you can find them online.

Staying healthy is all about the choices we make. Now that you know your bra could be killing you slowly, you have a choice to make.
And if switching your bra is all it will take to increase your odds for a healthier life, then that should be a no-brainer.
