Of course getting a good night’s sleep is prescribed for every one but it’s not always easy.  Why we need sleep is not fully known but it is clear that sleep can consolidate memories by enhancing and stabilizing them.

It’s also known that skimping on sleep can interfere with crucial cognitive processes.  For example, if you miss a night’s sleep, that day’s memories just might not make it to that special place where you can recall them easily in the future.

It is also well known that sleep deprivation can kill you.  You die from starvation if you don’t eat, well you can also die if you don’t get sleep.

When you are sleep deprived, certain changes occur in your brain similar to those experienced by people with psychiatric disorders.

The more you lack sleep, your body gets into a pre-diabetic state where you feel hungry even though you just ate.  It weakens your immune system and can cause tumors to grow 2 to 3 times faster, as found in sleep deprived lab animals.

However, one of the most interesting side-effects lack of sleep can cause is make you fat.

It seems that people who get less than 7 hours of sleep a night tend to have a higher body mass index than those who sleep more.  The reasoning behind this may have to do with the fact that sleep deprivation alters metabolism.

I spoke before of leptin and ghrelin before.  To refresh your memory, leptin is the hormone that signals that full feeling while ghrelin signals hunger.  So lack of sleep disrupts these hormones and ghrelin becomes a gremlin creating hunger when there should be none.

The fact that we are also very toxic from being exposed to all kinds of chemicals also contributes to sleeping irregularities and that certainly leads to weight gain.

Actually, some pesticides more than double body fat in test rats and also caused some rats to gain weight even when they only ate half as much.

Every wondered why you’re not losing weight even though you eat very small portions?  This could very well be linked to the fact that your body is overly toxic.

The only solution is for you to cleanse regularly and flood your body with nutrients that help it body to repair the damage at a cellular level.
