Having healthy gums should be a goal for everyone if they want to keep their teeth.
As a matter of fact, I wrote a small review about ” How to keep your teeth forever” and shared it with my readers just a while ago. If you’re interested in reading it,
In it, I talked about what you could be doing on a daily basis to keep your teeth and re-mineralize your teeth just by starting to give up toothpaste. What, you’re saying? Well, yes, it is entirely possible and it works. But that’s not what I want to talk about today. I want to share with you some secrets your dentist may not be aware of but you should.
After all it’s your teeth at stake here:

Healthy teeth
- With all the changes happening in dentistry, how is your dentist keeping up with the changes? It’s unlikely he/she is.
- Is your dentist aware; that the latest technology can expose you to less radiation with digital X-ray; That plaque can be vibrated off your teeth: That ceramic crowns or veneers can be installed in one visit; That a laser shined on the tooth can identify a cavity and how deep it is?
- Is your dentist still exposing to mercury contamination using mercury fillings just because they are easier to work with?
- Where are your implants and crowns from? Beware “Made from China” or Mexico products. Ask where they’re from.
- Is your dentist savvy about sleep apnea, jaw-related pain known as TMJ or temporomandibular joint disorder, periodontal disease, oral cancer, diabetes and hypertension? He/she should be!
- How about knowing who should be doing your implants. Periodontists have special training in gum tissue and underlying bone in the mouth, which are significant issues in dental implants and may be more qualified than an oral surgeon.
- Are your dentures distorting your facial features without your knowledge? A good dentist should be able to identify wear on your dentures and help prevent any distortion of facial characteristics, collapse of the bite and closure of the airway.
- Sleep apnea can often be treated with a custom device that guides the lower jaw forward, called a mandibular advancement device .
- Get referrals of great cosmetic improvements, at least 10 with names and numbers) before agreeing to any cosmetic improvements on your smile.
- Could you avoid a root canal? Possibly. Ask to be given the “ferrule effect” test which will identify if the tooth can be saved or not before committing to a treatment.
Well armed with the above information, you should be able to make an informed decision about what and how you should take care of the teeth you already have. In essence, nowadays, one has to be better informed than the professionals we go to for help.
