Since we heard of the melamine dairy scandal in China, consumers are much more wary of “Made in China” products. As they should be.
Chinese authorities are now admitting to the use of melamine, an industrial chemical and a filler for animal feed (which is also exported abroad).
This leaves one wondering what, or how much, of your food might contain this hazardous material.
Melamine has become a popular profit booster because it shows up as a protein in some tests used to determine the nutritional value of a foodstuff.
Therefore, manufacturers trick us by using the compound which makes their products appear more nutritious.
Melamine contamination has caused thousands of pets to die of renal failure.
It is quite astounding to think that toxicity experts would even think that this substance would not make us sick too, even in the wake of 4 babies dying from being poisoned by it and the 54,000 people that were hospitalized.
The arrogance put forth to protect the sinner not the innocent here, is mind-boggling.
It is claimed that the amount of the chemical in most foods, such as meat products, for example, would be too low to cause harm. But truly, they don’t have a clue what the effects are.
What is Melamine?
You got it, melamine is became a fashionable material for plastic household goods and laminates in the late 1930s.
When combined with formaldehyde and exposed to extreme heat, melamine creates a material capable of being molded and is virtually unbreakable once cooled.
So once in your system, it cools and starts to solidify, especially in your kidneys, ureter and bladder.
As it combines with another acid, called cyanuric, it starts forming little plastic stones which your body can’t get rid of.
It is also thought that melamine is cancer causing but still insist that it is harmless to humans.
Symptoms of Melamine Toxicity
Here are some symptoms observed in infants affected by infant formula with high amounts of melamine:
- High fever from urinary tract infections
- Crying in infants, especially when urinating, possible vomiting
- Small amounts of blood in the urine
- Renal failure because of obstructions
- Urinating pain and passage of stones while urinating
- High blood pressure
- Swelling
- Pain over the kidneys
Could this be a possible cause for the estimated 27 million Americans who suffer from chronic kidney disease?
Bottom Line
Knowing where your food comes from and how it’s produced is even more important nowadays.
If you think that is impossible then think about purchasing more organic foods from local farmers that follow good farming practices.
All in all the melamine contamination will at least have awakened a lot of sleepy heads who gobble up everything they are fed.
One day you have to take responsibility for your health because you certainly will not keep healthy if you continue to eat what is being put out there as food.
