This year, lobbyists for food and chemical met to save toxic plastic chemical BPA in spite of mounting evidence that even low levels of BPA can impact your health especially that of children in their early years.

Their target market was young mothers ages 21-35 and students which the lobbyists considered as crucial to the stability of the industry.

In other words, these people want to keep BPA even though it can really make you and especially very young children sick because they have to save the plastic bottle industry.

What really turns my stomach is the fact that they plan to use a pregnant woman to do the leg work and to target minorities and the poor in their campaign.

The National Toxicology Program of the U.S. Department fo Health and Human Services concluded in a 2008 report that real cause existed for concerns of BPA effects on the brain, behavior and prostate gland in fetuses, infants and children.

Safe limits for BPA do not exist and many health problems are linked to this toxic ingredient:

  • brain damage
  • impairs learning, aggressiveness and  hyperactivity
  • risk of obesity because of fat formation
  • impairs immune function
  • affects reproductive glands
  • abnormal sexual behavior and changes in gender-specific behavior
  • prostate cancer cells stimulation as is increased prostate size and less sperm production
  • affects pancreas function
  • heart disease
  • liver damage

Don’t you think it’s time to ditch the plastic?

Containers marked with the recycling labels No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4 do not contain BPA (however they may contain other unsavory chemicals that you’re best off avoiding by using glass instead).

Although it’s probably impossible to avoid BPA exposure completely, at least you can avoid the products that are the most obvious.

Here’s some tips you can use to help avoid this toxic poison, especially for your baby:

  • use glass bottles and dishes
  • no plastic toys for baby
  • use glass containers for storing food
  • don’t use plastic containers in the microwave
  • say no to canned foods or cola drinks
  • get rid of plastic wrap
  • stop buying bottled water
  • double check that the tooth sealant used by your dentist in BPA free

Keeping on top of the issues through information sites such as this one will keep you ahead of the curve.  Don’t forget that in all of this, cleansing is the foundation for better health which means getting rid of toxin accumulation before it starts being a health problem with bigger consequences than just a few dollars here and there to stay toxic free.
