As a mother, you just might be responsible for crushing your son’s masculinity!  This is a pretty strong statement but may very well be justified.

It seems that levels of a certain type of chemical found in pregnant women’s urine has been linked to their sons less than masculine behavior several years after being born.  A study published in the International Journal of Andrology, on phthalates which are used in all kinds of product, are associated with changes found in how male brains and genitals develop. These are seen as metabolic abnormalities and lower testesterone in babies and adults.

What are Phthalates? Simply put, they are a chemical that disrupts the endocrine system.

Phthalates can be found in all things that make plastics more flexible and resilient. Here’s a list to take note of:

  • pre=packaged foods  (in the packaging which touches the food and could contaminate)
  • hoses used for all types of applications such as drinking water filtration, lawn watering, etc
  • rainwear your child and you wear to stay dry
  • shower curtains in your bath
  • flooring such as those made of vinyl and wall coverings like wallpaper
  • lubricants and adhesives such as WD40 and glues
  • detergent you use to wash your laundry in
  • products to paint, your nails, wash and spray your hair with, to stop odour and to smell good
  • children toys that find their way in little mouths and get licked on

It’s everywhere we turn in our environment.

So how can you tell if phthalates are present?  For one, if a product contains PVC, which has phthalates, look for the recycling symbol #3.

Other chemicals found to contribute to the gender bending theory are:

  • BPA (bisphenol A) commonly found in many plastics like reusable water bottles, lining of food cans and dental sealants, all known to increase your risk of breast cancer.   Look for recycling symbol#7 as an indicator of BPA containing plastic.
  • PFOA (perfluoroocatanoic acid) coats water resistant cooking utensils and pots
  • Vincozin & methoxychlor which are insecticides and fungicides that cause changes in male mice for 4 generations
  • NPEs (nonyphenol ethoxylates) which disrupt endocrine glands by turning on or off certain genes that control our glandular system. Some marine species have been seen to switch from male to female because of this toxin.
  • Bovine growth hormones added to milk production contribute to premature adolescence.
  • Products made of soy which is considered  to affect female hormonal system
  • Monosodium glutamate (MSG) used to spice up food is linked to reduced fertility.
  • Fluoride in your drinking water is linked to lower fertility rates, hormone disruption and low sperm counts.

It stands to reason that one should be avoiding all products that contain these chemicals.  Check the labels, replace artificial with real and buy organic.

Don’t be the cause for men becoming an endangered species! You can take care now by cleansing these toxic substances from your body and give your newborn child a fighting chance.
