Falling Ritalin sales and other ADHD drugs have the drug makers looking for new ways to get their toxic and dangerous products out into the market.
A new approach has doctors recommending drugs such as Ritalin, used to treat hyperactive children, as the solution for solving the obesity crisis overtaking many countries.
These doctors claim that a chemical imbalance in the brain is caused by undiagnosed ADHD in an obese patient making that person unable to have the will power to lose weight.
What will they think of next?
ADHD drugs such as Adderall, Ritalin and Concerta are drugs that have a well-known side-effect of weight loss. As a matter of fact, during the 1960′s, Adderall was first marketed as a diet pill. It was especially popular among celebrities who used it for quick weight loss.
Now in 2007, researchers found that if adults took Ritalin before a buffet lunch, they ate 11 percent fewer calories and 17 percent less fat.
Drug makers must be ecstatic! What a cash cow!
There is hardly any industry out there with trillions to be made as in the weight loss industry.
But is taking these prescription drugs as weight loss miracle pills a risk you are willing to take?
Availability is making the access to psychiatric drugs as easy as getting candy. However, while one may increase your glucose levels, the other may just put you into the hospital to once again become a drug makers’ dream.
ADHD drugs work by stimulating the central nervous system. This can lead to:
- Increased blood pressure
- Increased heart rate
- Increased body temperature
- Increased alertness
- Suppressed appetite
Years of using these drugs can cause more sever problems, even caner. A study by the U. of Texas in 2005, showed that after just three months, 12 children showed chromosome damage.
What do you think years would do?
The powers that be are not ignorant of this fact. As far back as 1993, study results by the National Toxicology Program showed mice fed high levels of Ritalin ended up with liver tumors and even rare and very malignant cancers.
There is even concern about the long lasting changes found in brain cell structure, function and stunted growth.
Other evidence points to hallucinations, heart attack, stroke, increased aggressive behavior, suicide and even sudden death in other Ritalin related drugs.
The claim that undiagnosed ADHD makes obese patients unable to have will power to lose weight in no way addresses the root cause of obesity.
There is no quick fix where obesity is concerned as the person needs to first focus on:
- Their diet
- Using exercise as a drug instead of stimulants
- Learning to understand their emotional state much better (the WHY they got obese in the first place.)
As for ADHD, alternative solutions exist that are equal to or better than drugs:
- Increasing omega-3 fat intake
- Avoiding juices, soda and pasteurized milk
- Eliminating or restricting processed foods, sugars and artificial colors and flavors
- Getting more sunshine
I’ve always believed that most of our problems start with what we put into our mouths first. This is especially true for cases such as obesity. And looking to nature first is always a step in the right direction.
