If you really intend to turn back the clock, there are definitely some don’ts that you have to consider.

The biggest don’t is stop abusing your body whether it is through smoking, drinking or overeating.

There is nothing new I can tell you about smoking that you don’t already know.

As an abuse of your body, smoking is so flagrant that it really verges on long-term suicide. Of regular smokers, one in eight will get lung cancer and more than half will eventually come down with a serious chronic lung disease, such as emphysema or chronic bronchitis, that will shorten their lives and seriously diminish their pleasure in living.

Smoking is now the top risk factor for heart diseases leaving other well known risk factors like obesity, high LDL cholesterol, hyper-insulinism and poor nutrition behind at the starting gate.

As for alcohol, many studies support the notion that a glass of wine a day would actually be good for you but drink more than one; you undo the good it did.

I’m sure that like smoking I don’t have to tell you about the perils of alcoholism.. I must add though, that it is much more serious in women as their bodies are smaller and contain less water to dilute alcohol. They also have only one-fourth of the amount of a certain enzyme required to metabolize alcohol that men do.

I will also emphasize again the importance of buying organic food as much as possible. It is no longer difficult to buy meats that are fresh and free from hormones.

And please for God’s sake, throw out the margarine!

Oh but it’s trans fat free!” you say. Sure, but it is also made of diacetyl, isopropyl and stearyl citrates, sodium, benzoate, benzoic or citric acid, diglycerides and monoglycerides. It is not fit for consumption by man or animal.

As we age, we also need less calories.  Most of us continue to eat what we did 20 years ago but are less active.  We don’t need those calories.  We do need though nutrient dense foods that have low calories but you won’t find in fresh foods of today although going organic has one up over conventionally grown foods.

The alternative is to put into your body real nutrition that you can count on. Check out these nutrient dense meal replacements.
