What is the number one source of calories in the U.S.?

High fructose corn syrup (HFCS).

12 teaspoons of this sweetener is ingested by the average person every day, and teens may even consume 80% more than that.

To make matters worse, it has now been found that this widespread sweetener is now contaminated with mercury.

Samples from popular name-brand foods and beverages were shown to contain this toxic metal.

But why is mercury in the corn syrup in the first place?

That’s because caustic soda is used in the processing of high fructose corn syrup and since mercury is used to produce caustic soda, some HFCS becomes contaminated which then transfers the mercury to your soda, salad dressing, soup, cereal etc.

ironically, the Corn Refiners Association just recently spent big bucks trying to rebuild HFCS’s reputation.

How they will explain this latest development will be interesting to watch.

If you didn’t already know why consuming mercury is not good for you, then know now that it is especially dangerous for pregnant women and small children with developing brains.

Mercury poisoning causes mental retardation, cerebral palsy, deafness and blindness in children.

In adults, it can cause fertility problems, memory, vision loss and blood pressure regulating problems.

And much more.

Contamination from mercury should not be taken lightly!

But avoiding HFCS should be a matter of course, even if it were not contaminated with this toxic metal.

First of all it is metabolized to fat in our body much quicker than any other sugar and is shown to greatly increase your chances of diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome, increased triglycerides and liver disease.

To top it all, HFCS is usually made from genetically modified corn. That alone is enough for me not to eat anything that has that on the label.

Your best bet is to stay with organic ingredients and as close to nature as possible in what you eat and to cleanse your body of these toxins on a regular basis.
