Trying to keep people on a path of good health, health authorities have chanted the saturated fat song for so long that real facts have fallen by the way side.  This is especially true where butter is concerned.

It was first thought that butter, containing saturated fat, was bad for our health and contributed to heart disease.  As a solution and substitute, margarine was introduced as the new saviour, with unsaturated fat instead and therefore, safer for us to consume.

Or so it was thought.

But where did margarine come from? Originally, margarine was manufactured to fatten up turkeys for sale. However, horror of horrors it killed them instead.  Having invested millions into this research, a coming of heads decided to sell it for human consumption in order to recuperate investments costs.  Margarine has been a resounding success for its owners but a total failure for those consuming it.

What makes margarine so different to butter?

Both have the same amount of calories after all.  It’s not the calories but what it does to the heart that is the reason given for eating it in the first place.  Although butter is slightly higher in saturated fats, eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods which margarine does not.

While butter has nutritional benefits, margarine’s nutritional benefits have to added.  There is also no denying that butter takes the taste test.  Eating margarine triples your risk of coronary heart disease.  Why does the heart and stroke association tell you to eat a certain margarine that start with a B?

I wonder how much that company is donating in funds to the heart and stroke association!

Margarine not only increases the bad cholesterol but lowers the good one and can increase the risk of cancers up to five times.  Breast feeding mothers will also find their milk to be of a poorer quality. Moreover, immune and insulin response are decreased

But I think the biggest disturbing fact to reveal is that margarine is one molecule away from being plastic.

You might have heard of this experiment before. Let me tell you that it does work.

Purchase  a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded  area.  Within a couple of days you will note a couple of   things:
*  no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it   (that  should tell you something)
*  it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional  value; nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weeny  microorganisms   will not a find a home to grow.  Why?   Because it is nearly plastic.  Would you melt your Tupperware and  spread that  on your toast?

Knowing all of that, it’s pass the butter for me. What about you?

There are many foods to avoid because of carcinogens and many list circulate on the net.  However, this list which came out of mainstream media, is certainly one that I agree with wholeheartedly in every respect.

It’s really too bad to say that we can no longer count on commercial foodgrowers to give us pure foods with no pesticide residues.

If you read my Are You Giving Your Baby Cancer? , you will know that even newborns are exposed to dietary contaminants and food additives through their mothers.

This next list provides you with a great starting point at cleaning up your diet and knowing why these staple foods loaded with carcinogens should be avoided or replaced with organically grown, biodynamic whole foods.

  • Watch what’s in the can: first off canned foods aren’t the best route to good nutrition but certain canned foods, such as tomatoes, are the worse because of their acidity which breaks down the resin lining of tin cans which contain bisphenol-A.  This synthetic estrogen has been linked to a wide range of ailments such as reproductive problems to heart disease, diabetes and obesity.
  • Get the corn out of the beef! The cows I see around where I live, eat grass, not grains.  But it’s much cheeper to feed animals corn and soybeans which make them fat, quick.  Consider that corn and soy are first, genetically engineered and second, they are a grain.  A recent study found that when you compare grain fed beef to grass fed beef , the grass fed beef was much higher in beta-carotene, vitamin E, omega-3s, CLA (conjugated linoleic acid and potassium.
  • Don’t pop that corn: The bag used to pop our corn in is lined with chemicals, including perfluorooctanoic acid which may be lined to infertility in humans. Studies of tests on animals show damage to liver, testicular and pancreatic cancer.  Why? Because the microwave causes the chemical to vaporize and leaches into the popcorn.
  • Root it out:  I love potatoes but I don’t love the fact that they absorb all the pesticides and fungicides that wind  up in the soil.  Potatoes are not only treated at the time of planting but during several occasions even when picked to stop germination.
  • Free the salmon: Were you meant to grow up in a cage? well neither is salmon. Salmon are packed like sardines in pens and fed GMO soy, poultry litter and hydrolyzed chicken feathers.  YUM!  This results in a lower vitamin D content and a much higher contaminant content including PCBsbrominated flame retardants, pesticides, dioxin and DDT.
  • Does Milk Do The Body Good? Not so much if it comes from dairy farms where farmers use recombinant bovine growth hormones to boost milk production.  This hormone is known to increase udder infections which add pus into the milk. As an insulin-like growth ingredient, once it hits the body, it may contribute to breast, prostate and colon cancers.
  • An apple a day keeps the doctor away: That may be true if the apple hasn’t be doused with pesticides.  The apple wins the award for most doused fruit.  These pesticides have been linked to Parkinson’s disease.  You will have to make my daily apple, organic, thank you.

This list is by no means the end list of foods to avoid, but if you truly care to avoid the above un-organic renditions of these foods and throw out the cans while you’re at it, you are certainly way ahead of the uninformed crowd.  And if you cleanse on a regular basis, then you are ensuring yourself that toxins won’t lead you to the grave.

To be shown the science and given the choice to receive a vaccine is really all I ever wanted.

Isn’t that a right that all individuals should have? After all we are not all made the same and the way vaccines are being offered is the same cookie cutter version for everyone.

It’s not that science doesn’t already know that we are all different.  For example, in 2001, an entire book written by the Institute of Medicine, on how male and female bodies reacted differently was published.

It is clear and scientific evidence supports the fact that we do have an epidemic on our hands.  But it is one of autism, ADHD, juvenile diabetes, leaning disabilities and asthma.

More and more, stories are being heard of mothers who take their healthy children to be vaccinated one day and the next their child exhibits physical and mental problems not there before the vaccination.

Isn’t it enough that many doctors and researchers do now believe vaccines are to blame for this epidemic even if the CDC isn’t ready to do so? Obviously these doctors and researchers don’t have a vested interest in promoting vaccines.

Investigations have shown that CDC’s former head, Dr. Julie Gerberding, became Merck’s president of the vaccine division. The bigger umbrella held by the World Health Organization is no better having close ties pharmaceutical companies involved with pushing the swine flu vaccination effort and possible pandemics, using scare mongering tactics.

Knowing this, Barbara Loe Fisher,  author and activist who worked with Congress to develop the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986 has requested to study the science behind the new H1N1 vaccines.

Show me that it works and I’ll be the first in line but until you prove it to me, don’t try to scare me!

As a mother, you just might be responsible for crushing your son’s masculinity!  This is a pretty strong statement but may very well be justified.

It seems that levels of a certain type of chemical found in pregnant women’s urine has been linked to their sons less than masculine behavior several years after being born.  A study published in the International Journal of Andrology, on phthalates which are used in all kinds of product, are associated with changes found in how male brains and genitals develop. These are seen as metabolic abnormalities and lower testesterone in babies and adults.

What are Phthalates? Simply put, they are a chemical that disrupts the endocrine system.

Phthalates can be found in all things that make plastics more flexible and resilient. Here’s a list to take note of:

  • pre=packaged foods  (in the packaging which touches the food and could contaminate)
  • hoses used for all types of applications such as drinking water filtration, lawn watering, etc
  • rainwear your child and you wear to stay dry
  • shower curtains in your bath
  • flooring such as those made of vinyl and wall coverings like wallpaper
  • lubricants and adhesives such as WD40 and glues
  • detergent you use to wash your laundry in
  • products to paint, your nails, wash and spray your hair with, to stop odour and to smell good
  • children toys that find their way in little mouths and get licked on

It’s everywhere we turn in our environment.

So how can you tell if phthalates are present?  For one, if a product contains PVC, which has phthalates, look for the recycling symbol #3.

Other chemicals found to contribute to the gender bending theory are:

  • BPA (bisphenol A) commonly found in many plastics like reusable water bottles, lining of food cans and dental sealants, all known to increase your risk of breast cancer.   Look for recycling symbol#7 as an indicator of BPA containing plastic.
  • PFOA (perfluoroocatanoic acid) coats water resistant cooking utensils and pots
  • Vincozin & methoxychlor which are insecticides and fungicides that cause changes in male mice for 4 generations
  • NPEs (nonyphenol ethoxylates) which disrupt endocrine glands by turning on or off certain genes that control our glandular system. Some marine species have been seen to switch from male to female because of this toxin.
  • Bovine growth hormones added to milk production contribute to premature adolescence.
  • Products made of soy which is considered  to affect female hormonal system
  • Monosodium glutamate (MSG) used to spice up food is linked to reduced fertility.
  • Fluoride in your drinking water is linked to lower fertility rates, hormone disruption and low sperm counts.

It stands to reason that one should be avoiding all products that contain these chemicals.  Check the labels, replace artificial with real and buy organic.

Don’t be the cause for men becoming an endangered species! You can take care now by cleansing these toxic substances from your body and give your newborn child a fighting chance.

155 years ago, a natural substance was derived from a mineral and found to be one of the safest and most versatile substances in the world.

Bicarbonate soda’s therapeutic value was well documented in a 1924 booklet published by Arm & Hammer but now because of FDA rules banning the health claims of natural substances, it has been relegated into obscurity.

Even way back then, it was known that a thoroughly alkalized body rarely contracted the disease and those who did, if alkalized early, would blissfully have only mild attacks.

Why is this not common knowledge today? Just know, if you don’t already, that the FDA and Big Pharma have a vested interest in keeping this simple remedy under wraps.

So what were the recommended dosages put forth by Arm & Hammer for colds and flu treatment in 1924?

  • Day 1:  6  doses of half teaspoonful of Bicarbonate of Soda in  cool water, at two hour intervals
  • Day 2:  4 doses of half teaspoonful of Bicarbonate of Soda in cool water, at the same intervals
  • Day 3:  2 doses of half  teaspoonful of Bicarbonate of Soda in cool water morning and evening, followed in proceeding days by  half teaspoonful in  cool water each morning until cold is cured

This article parallels another one I wrote on how baking soda could actually be effective to cure breast cancer.

Unfortunately, despite all the evidence showing that baking soda can be an effective and non-toxic approach to treating cancer, conventional medicine still refuses to pay attention.  Baking soda just is not a huge profit maker as there is more money to be made in keeping us unwell. The gullible public still believes that donating for “The Cure” is worthwhile.

Persecuting those that try to educate us about inexpensive treatment options is still a deplorable industry practice.

Fortunately, it is thanks to sites like this and others dedicated to revealing the truth that will keep you knowledgeable and armed for prevention.

You decided to take a luxurious bubble bath to relax and you’ve put your favorite bath product in the water so that all the bubbles could cover your naked body.  And now you can really relax!

Unfortunately, you will be making a very bad decision in adding this bath product to your tub.

It doesn’t stop there. If you also enjoy using shampoo that gives a rich lather or shaving cream with a lot of foam, although these examples may seem totally innocent, you are literally exposing yourself to serious health dangers.

Unless it specifically says on the label that it does not, most of these products contain sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate that are industrial cleaners effective enough to scrub your garage floor.

These compounds have been prove to cause cancer if used over a long period of time.  These compounds stay in your body for up to 5 days.  Do you ever go 5 days before your next shower?

Of course not.  So when does your body get a break?  Never!

We know that our skin is the largest organ of our body and studies have shown that these compounds easily penetrate through the skin to go and build up levels in the heart, liver, lungs and brain.

It seems that putting chemicals on our skin is far worse than eating them.  That’s because enzymes in our saliva and stomach will help break down these toxins and flush them out of the body.

However, if the chemicals enter through the skin, it by-passes this filtration process and accumulates over time.

There are thousands of these chemicals used in our personal care products and the majority have never been tested for safety.

Let’s look at just one of the chemicals: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate  (SLS)

  • If you soap in your eyes, SLS can penetrate your eyes and other tissues related to your brain, heart and liver.
  • SLS can produce carcinogens that make your body absorb nitrates. You may be applying a good rubbing of cream to your arms but you are also applying nitrates.
  • SLS will leave your skin stipped of oils and moisture causing cracking and severe inflammation of derma-epidermal tissues because it breaks down the protein of our skin.
  • It has been known to cause skin inflammation in most people even 6 hours after application with a worse effect after 49 hours  and getting slightly less after 3 days.
  • SLS can also damage DNA as it causes cellular damage.

All in all, it is up to us to use products that omit the use of the cancer causing compounds and it all starts by cleansing the body of the toxic chemicals  and then go on to using skin products that rely on natural and effective ingredients that nourish our skin rather than make it a toxic dumping ground.

Pregnant women are being told by US health authorities to make the H1N1 flu shot a must if they are to protect themselves and their babies.

But should they really be listening to this advice?

flu shot

flu shot

To answer that question, one should first look to the package inserts that come with the swine flu vaccines. These say that the safety for pregnant women has not yet been proven.

Could this be the reason why so many pregnant women are losing their babies after having had the H1N1 shot?

It’s a high probability that many of these miscarriages were not reported to the authorities. But you can report an occurrence yourself at the VAERS website.

Unfortunately, only about 10% do report any adverse effects.

It is imperative to your health and your baby’s health that you stay informed, read the labels and just because you are told it’s safe, do your own research and don’t let yourself be a victim of fear mongering.

Organic Health has posted some really heart wrenching stories of pregnant women miscarrying soon after getting the shot.   These stories may shock and anger you.  And it should.

Recently, Time Magazine had an article entitled, “Why Exercise  Won’t  Make You Thin”.  Is Time Magazine misinformed or has the author not read any of the many studies that show exercise as being critical to losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight, when coupled with good eating habit?

Here are facts discovered by countless studies studying exercise:

  1. Exercise gets rid of belly fat
Although I hate aerobics, it has the greatest impact on reducing abdominal fat, also known as visceral fat– the dangerous fat that increases your risk of diabetes and heart disease.
  2. Exercise uses up excess calories
We do tend to overeat and if you don’t exercise these extra calories will get stored as fat.
  3. Exercise maintains your weight over time

Once gone, the weight you lost won’t have a chance to come sneaking back if you exercise on a regular basis. 90% of those who lost kept it off because of daily exercise.
  4. Exercise helps boost your metabolism
Who wants to lose muscle? That’s what dieting will do if you don’t exercise. Sure you will also lose fat but losing muscles means you will burn fewer calories. Keeping your muscle structure intact and in fact, building new muscle actually increases your metabolism to burn more calories. It’s a win-win affair.
  5. Exercise has hidden benefits

It’s not always about the weight you lose.  Muscle also weighs. So if you gain 3 pounds of lean muscle and lose 4 pounds of fat, you’ve actually improved your body condition despite what the weight scale says.
  6. Exercise also work on emotions
Because working out regulated your mood, it also has a direct effect on you when stressed. Some emotional eaters will binge when stressed out. Exercise will help curb your appetite.
  7. Exercise gets the ball rolling

It all starts with healthy habits. When people make positive changes, like getting more exercise, they tend to work on other health improvements as well, such as eating better.
  8. Exercise can be fun :

Being active is sometimes easier to do than just concentrating at being slim.  Rock climbing, for instance, can be a challenge physically plus it’s a lot of fun. You can’t climb a celery stick!
  9. Exercise can make you not hungry
Exercising seems to stop those hunger pangs or at least make you less hungry. Now isn’t that great?
  10. Exercise increases energy
Because you are active regularly, your stamina will increase. This is due to your body producing more energy-promoting neurotransmitters which motivates you even more to keep those pounds off.
  11. I do want to add that a nutritional plan for weight loss does exist where loss of muscle is not an issue even if the person has little to no exercise.

How do I know this?  Because I’ve experienced it myself.

Toxins are here  to stay.  We all know that. But a recent study tested newborns for toxins and the results  not only surprised the Environmental Working Group but also alarmed them as all 10 infants tested had about as many toxins in their blood as the adults.

Contaminants like mercury, pesticide, even fire retardant chemicals used in televisions, computers and upholstery, and  Teflon non-stick  cookware were all present in the samples.

Health professionals believe these chemicals play a big role in many health problems like autism, leukemia, brain cancer, asthma, birth defects and infertility.

Even if you reduce exposure by eating less packaged foods, grow your own food and avoid clothing with fire retardant chemicals, you will not eliminate toxins and accumulation will eventually be detrimental to your health.

There is only one sure way to address this issue and it is by cleansing the body of toxins, periodically.

Here’s a video by ABC News reporting on toxicity found in new borns.
